Spanish Tile

Spanish tile roofing, although popularized in Spain, has a much older history.  Roofing tiles made from clay were used in China as long ago as 10,000 BC, and they quickly spread to the Greek and Roman Empires.  The name Spanish Tile was popularized in the Americas during the 16^th and 17^th centuries, when Spanish settlers were bringing this lovely style with them.  Although Spanish tile roofing has always been prized because it is attractive, long-lasting and fire-proof, there were problems.  Because clay tiles are so heavy, it can be costly to install the additional roof support needed.  Clay tiles are also prone to shattering and breaking if struck.

Each panel is installed vertically up the roof from the eave to the ridge. The roof has exposed, colored-to-match fasteners and is installed over a solid deck with a minimum 30 # felt underlayment. It's lightweight and allows installation over existing composition roofs without the need for tear-off and disposal (subject to local codes).

Typical applications for Spanish tile roofing are commercial and residential roofs with a recommended minimum pitch of 3:12 and up. In most cases, Spanish Tile by Future Roof Systems is 1/10 the weight of traditional Spanish clay tiles.
